SUMMARY

Idaho's improvements to its interstate system include widening of existing routes and an addition of a new major north-south route throughout the state. as well as regional interstate additions as well. There are some that are being considered such as a bypass around Boise.

INTERSTATE 11

A major hole in the western interstate system is a link from idaho to the southwest and california. This vital transportation link is being served currently by US-95 which is mostly a two lane highway. Building a new interstate along this corridor is ideal because it not only will link Boise to northern Idaho, it would also link Boise to Nevada and California.

The routing in greater Boise passes south through the Indian Valley to Emmett, then along SH-16 through Jackass Gulch to I-84 east of Nampa. from I-84 the route would head south to the I-284 bypass there it heads west along the bypass passing south of Lake Lowell. from there it splits off of I-284 and heads south again along US-95 toward Winnemucca, NV

INTERSTATE 284

Planners at Compass Idaho (Community Planning Association of Southwestern Idaho), a local think tank for planning in the Treasure Valley, have been considering a conceptual bypass for I-84. This bypass would travel from I-84 west of caldwell south around Lake Lowell and then east near Kuna-Mora Rd reconnecting with I-84 near Blacks Creek Jct.

The route known also as the "Treasure Valley Bypass" should be numbered as Interstate 284, since it fits in well with the interstate numbering system. This route would provide an excellent alternative for truckers and commercial traffic to bypass the congestion of I-84 in Boise and Nampa, and relieve traffic congestion for all drivers on every highway in the treasure valley.
