Interstate 40 - Extension
Description This Would extend I-40 west from its existing terminus in Barstow to Paso Robles via Bakersfield. The route would replace or generally follow existing SR 58 from Barstow to Bakersfield. Would be cosigned with I-7 (SR-99) until it reaches SR-46 and would replace or generally follow SR 46 until it reached I-1 (US-101) near Paso Robles.
Purpose and Need To promote continuity with the existing interstate system. And connect I-40 from coast to coast and the central valley.
Notes This route largely improved to interstate standards from Bakersfield east to Mojave and portions east of that. Upgrading the remaining sections would be fairly easy.
