Corridor 9 (South)

Ultimate Interstate Corridor 9 - South
Description This interstate begins at the current I-5/SR-14 junction in Santa Clarita and would continue north along the SR-14 Antelope valley Freeway through Lancaster. The route continues north onto existing US-395 passing near Ridgecrest on its way to Bishop CA. From there I-9 would follow the US-6 alignment heading into the state of Nevada where it would travel on a new alignment generally following along NV route 360 and ending at the planned I-11 West of Tonopah near the existing US 95 and NV-360 turnoff.
Purpose and Need Due to the high volume of truck and commercial traffic along this corridor this road needs to be upgraded to interstate standards. This would also provide direct interstate access from the Greater LA and San Diego regions to the inter-mountain cities such as Reno and Boise and Susanville.
Alternate Routing An alternate routing would extend ultimate interstate 9 northward to Reno via Carson City, replacing I-580 and possibly even extending the route northward to reach Susanville, Klamath Falls and beyond if needed. A new terrain route would be built from I-11 north of Hawthorn where I-9 would then split off to the west toward Yerington and Minden reconnecing with US-395 and then northward to Reno.
