SUMMARYIdaho's improvements to its interstate system include widening of existing routes and an addition of a new major north-south route throughout the state. as well as regional interstate additions as well. There are some that are being considered such as a bypass around Boise. INTERSTATE 11A major hole in the western interstate system is a link between Idaho and California and Nevada. This vital transportation link is being served currently by US-95 which is mostly a two lane highway. and is not adequate to handle high truck traffic volumes. Building a new interstate along this corridor is ideal because it not only will link northern Idaho to the rest of the state, it will also provide an interstate link to Nevada and California. and strengthen commercial ties to the Pacific coast and southwestern states. This interstate would begin in the north at Spokane or Coeur d'Alene depending on the route chosen. The Spokane routing heads south along US-195 to Lewiston, while the Coeur d'Alene alternate would follow US-95 south through Moscow. From Lewiston southward the routing would follow US-95 through Grangevillel, Riggins and Council. South of council the route would shift east of US-95 through the Indian Valley to Emmett. Then southward to the I-284 bypass then heading west for a short distance, spliting off of I-284. Finally, the route heads south again along US-95 toward Winnemucca, NV |
