SUMMARY

Los Angeles' improvements to its interstate system include redesignation of several freeways as interstate routes throughout the area.

INTERSTATE 1

Interstate 1 would upgrade a major pacific coast artery to Interstate standards from Washington state to Los Angeles. Not intended to replace the US 101 designation but instead be cosigned with US 101. In the Bay area US 101 would still be the primary route up the peninsula and into downtown San Francisco. where I-1 would replace current I-880 and the I-580 across the San Rafale bridge. Interstate 1 travel along the US 101 alignment north and south of the region. Because California does not allow duplicated route numbers SR-1 could be renumbered as SR A1A or 1A to avoid numbering confusion.

INTERSTATE 210

Interstate 210 would be essentially a renumbering of a new highway CA-210 which was planned long ago. originally I-210 turned south at the SR-57 interchange and met I-10 there. now that it has been extended east it now connects to former CA-30 (now CA-210) and loops around San Bernardino to I-10 near Redlands. Now that the freeway is almost comleted the I-210 signs should be posted.

INTERSTATE 310

Interstate 310 would be essentially a renumbering of CA-134. Interstate 310 would be a spur route off of the I-10 system linking it with US-101 which would be signed as I-1

INTERSTATE 410

Interstate 410 would be essentially a renumbering of CA-60 (former US-60) from Beaumont CA to the East LA interchange. Some minor upgrades would need to be made to upgrade this to interstate standards. This interstate upgrade would also provide better route continuity for the interstate system. Currently I-215 makes a sharp right turn at Riverside. I-410 would provide a straight through route west to east. Also the CA-60 shield can also be retired opening up the posibility of a historic US-60 route program instead

INTERSTATE 415

Interstate 415 would be essentially a renumbering of CA-91 (former US-91) from Riverside CA to Torrance CA. Some minor upgrades would need to be made to upgrade this to interstate standards. This freeway would be a logical offshoot from the I-215 and I-410 (CA-60) interchange in Riverside.

INTERSTATE 710

Interstate 710 is a long planned gap closure project for the LA metro area. Long heated debates over the extension of this ill-fated freeway have been shot down over the years. Yet the prospect of linking I-710 proper with the spur freeway west of downtown Pasadena (at the I-210 and CA-134 interchange) still lingers in the air. Will this freeway ever be constructed through rose bowl territory, unlikely, but there are those that still hold out hope.
