ULTIMATE BAY AREA INTERSTATESHere are some ideas to make improvements to the interstate system for the San Francisco Bay Area. Below is a map with ideas proposed for future interstate routes. California Ultimate Interstates
Improvements to the San Francisco Bay area interstate system include redesignation of several freeways as interstate routes throughout the area. INTERSTATE 1Interstate 1 would upgrade a major pacific coast artery to Interstate standards from Washington state to Los Angeles. Not intended to replace the US 101 designation but instead be cosigned with US 101. In the Bay area US 101 would still be the primary route up the peninsula and into downtown San Francisco. where I-1 would replace current I-880 and the I-580 across the San Rafale bridge. Interstate 1 travel along the US 101 alignment north and south of the region. Because California does not allow duplicated route numbers SR-1 could be renumbered as SR A1A or 1A to avoid numbering confusion. INTERSTATE 201Interstate 201 would replace the existing SR 85 freeway (future I-201) that loops around the San Jose Area. INTERSTATE 301Interstate 201 would replace the existing SR 237 freeway that connects SR 85/US-101 to I-1 (current I-880) along the northern side of San Jose. INTERSTATE 401Interstate 401 would replace the existing SR 92 freeway that crosses the center of the San Francisco Bay. INTERSTATE 701Interstate 701 would replace the existing SR 17 freeway that connects San Jose to Santa Cruz. This freeway would end at SR 1 in Santa Cruz INTERSTATE 801Interstate 801 would replace the existing SR 37 freeway that connects Novato US-101 (future I-1) to Vallejo and I-80 along the north shore of San Pablo Bay. INTERSTATE 109Interstate 109 would replace the existing SR 4 freeway that connects I-80 at Hercules to SR-99 (Future I-9) in Stockton. This highway passes thru Antioch and Concord along the way. This long spur freeway provides another vital interstate route number into the Bay Area and continuity with the I-9 system. INTERSTATE 909Interstate 909 would be built partially as a toll facility between I-5 in Elk Grove and I-109 (SR-4) Antioch, and a free facility to the east and north around the Sacramento region. This highway would connect future I 109 (SR 4) with the Sacramento region I-9 (SR-99) US-50 and end at I-80 near Auburn. this Spur freeway provides another connection to the Sacramento region to alleviate traffic and a freeway bypass around the east and south of Sacramento to alleviate traffic on I-80, US-50 and I-5. |
