Nevada's route markers are fashioned after the state outline, as are many state highway markers
throughout the United States. Since the majority of Nevada's state highways are numberes as 3-digit highways the shield is designed
in a 3-digit format only. Note that Nevada DOT uses an cutout version of the marker on highway guide signs *(also known by roadgeeks
as BGS or "Big Green Signs"). These older signs are being phased out.
