STATE ROUTE 65 CORRIDOR IMPROVEMENT PLAN
SUMMARY
This project is schedule to be completed through a series of projects along the corridor through the year 2035. The Corridor limits along Interstate 80 are from Roseville to Colfax, to the Eagle Road Interchange. The original highway constructed in 1968 has had few major improvements since it was constructed. the pavement is now deteriorated and extremely rough in many locations along the corridor. Some sections of the freeway cannot handle the current volume of traffic that it must now carry. Also this section of freeway is the scene of frequent accidents and traffic delays. Below are a list of projects that intend to correct the substandard conditions of the current roadway.
THINKING FORWARD
The purpose of this project is to widen Interstate 80 from Roseville to Rocklin, and to rebuild the interchanges at SR-65, Rocklin Rd, Sierra College Blvd, Loomis and Colfax/SR-174. The projects also include some operational improvements to the freeway as well.

PROJECT DETAILS
STATE ROUTE 65/INTERSTATE 80 INTERCHANGE RECONSTRUCTION
Reconstruct existing interchange to allow for future long range planned widening of SR-65 to 6 lanes. Widen interchange and reconstruct with high-speed design instead of loop ramp.
FREEWAY WIDENING I-80 TO LINCOLN
This project will widen state route 65 to six lanes from Interstate 80 in Rocklin to just south of Industrial Ave in Lincoln.
SUNSET BLVD INTERCHANGE PROJECT
Construct a new partial cloverleaf interchange on State Route 65 at Sunset Blvd, one off-ramp and two on-ramps in each direction. Project to include ramp metering and a designated HOV lanes on entrance ramps heading towards Roseville.
LINCOLN BYPASS
Construct new bypass west of Lincoln.
WHEATLAND BYPASS
Construct new freeway bypass from SR-65 north of the Bear River bridge to Current freeway terminus near South Beale Road. The exact routing has not yet been determined for this bypass however it most likely will be built to the east of Wheatland.
THIRD FEATHER RIVER BRIDGE AND EXPRESSWAY
A conceptual plan to build a new road across the Feather River south of Yuba City and Marysville as a possible extension of state route 65. The proposed crossing would be built as a freeway or expressway.
PROJECT BACKGROUND
This freeway route is vital to California's intrastate transportation needs and is an important inter-regional highway in the north central valley. These projects would provide a better connection to the capital for those communities to the north. Several projects are planned to address several issues such as: bottlenecks and congestion, grade separations at busy intersections, removal of highway traffic from local streets, just to name a few. These projects are vital to increasing the traffic volume, and connecting the north state.
VISION FOR STATE ROUTE 65
This section of highway is the northern section of state route 65 and needs to be upgraded to full freeway. Eventually the upgraded route could be part of a Visions concept known as Interstate 9 which would connect valley cities from Bakersfield to Fresno, Sacramento Chico and beyond. Key Improvements that need to be made are:
- Construct the Wheatland bypass by 2020
- Full access high speed interchange at Interstate 80 with a East to northbound flyover to replace the loop ramp
- Fasttrack al planned and programmed upgrade projects to deliver upgradeds to drivers sooner
- Reconstruct 70/65 interchange to accomodate potential future Marysville Bypass.
